A PROGRAM designed for the whole family

For the Adults...This retreat will serve the needs of those who would like to include their children and/or their spouse in a day away to rest, play, do yoga and be together in a beautiful, peace-filled environment. There will be activity options available for the families to participate in together. There will be activities specifically for the children and others exclusively for the adults.
The adults' programmed activities will include instruction and practice of yoga postures, breathing exercises and meditation. Some of the optional activities include hiking and/or mountain bicycling through the redwood trails, saunas, getting a massage, visiting with others, time in solitude, reading, writing, resting, playing games, visiting the shrines and temple, time in the silence...

For the Children...This retreat will be an opportunity for the children to participate with their parents and/or be on their own with a skilled teacher or childcare provider. Parents choose, after looking at the daily schedule, which time segments they would like their children to be participating in the programs provided. The children's program activities will take place in a nurturing, safe and supportive environment. The Tara Redwood School, on the retreat property of the Land of Medicine Buddha, will be used for the children. It is about 200 yards away from the Pine Room, the area that will be used for the adults' yoga and meditation classes. Some of the activities for the children will include music and creative movement, stories, children's yoga, family yoga, outdoor play, and crafts (for the older children). The children can participate in any or all sections of the program provided. Children's programs will run (approximately) Saturday 2-5pm and Sunday 10:15-11:15am. Private one-on-one childcare will also be available during these program times. Prior reservations will be needed for this option and a $10/hr fee will be charged.

Age Groups?
As interest grows and registrations begin, I will know better the age groups that will be most popular and will build the children's program around those who register. If you and your child are interested, let me know soon so we can plan and build the programs accordingly. The program is now open to children of all ages. Interest is already high around toddler age and 4-8 year olds. Also, your pre-teens and teens are welcome to join us in the adult program.

Yoga CD Julianne Rice has recorded a guided yoga instructional CD called Gentle Yoga for Every Body. Everybody can do yoga, thats why it's "Yoga for Every Body". Some practitioners feel that a Yoga CD has an advatage over a Yoga DVD. The main reason being that when practicing it is most effective to be able to concentrate on what they are doing rather than being distracted by needing to look at a video monitor. Gentle postures are found on Gentle Yoga for Every Body CD. The accompanying poster shows the postures in detail. You can purchase the CD HERE

Hatha Yoga: The Yogi Philosophy of physical well-being incorporates poses and breathing exercises in a meditative mood. Stress Reduction is a major benefit of doing hatha yoga poses, breathing exercises and meditation.

Breath work and all it encompasses is one of Julianne Rice's special interests and areas of expertise. She has worked with those who have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) and other breathing disorders. Many of these breathing disorders can be helped through yoga, meditation and customized breathing exercises. Insomnia has also been helped through becoming aware of and practicing some basic breathing exercises, both throughout the day, an hour before bedtime and as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Breathing Coach Support is something that is becoming more popular in modern times. Because of high stress, the body's natural instinct to breathe freely is getting compromised.

Breath Therapy can be complex and it can also be way more simple than one could imagine. The key being to adjust living habits ever so slightly that one remembers to breathe consciously especially in the moments of challenge, worry and difficulty. Breathing Therapy Exercises range in difficulty. One thing is common to all forms of breath therapy - they work. Less stress and more peace of mind are always the result. Of course, the results can be fleeting if the practice is not remembered and continued on a regular basis. Breathe for your life. Just letting go even for a moment of one's ritualistic patterns of worrying and/or thinking negatively and replacing that moment's attention on the rhythm and depth of one's breath can make all the difference in the world. Breathe Freely today and every day. Sometimes we are not even aware that our ability to breathe more effectively is compromised. We think that the alivenes that we feel today is as good as it gets. A few minutes of conscious breathing exercises can open our eyes to the possibility of how we can help manage our levels of vital energy and find some relief from every day stress. Breathing Disorders are so prevalent these days and little is known about how to help them through conventional methods.

Hatha Yoga and our Daily Life. Approaching a hatha yoga practice with a spirit of compassion connects body, mind and breath in a way that nourishes and reenergizes. As we begin our practice, our bodies and mind begin to transform and heal. As we continue our practice, we notice that our approach and action on our mat begin to be reflected in our daily lives. For instance, the patience in tree pose, the steadfastness in downward dog pose, the endurance in chair pose and the gracefulness apparent in sun salutations all begin to be cultivated in other areas of our daily lives. The magic of a regular yoga practice uncovers a blend of love and creativity that free us from our self-imposed limitations and restore us to wholeness.

Hatha Yoga at CSE. Hatha Yoga is a system designed for gaining control over, purifying and strengthening the vital energy of the body with the aim of awakening spiritual awareness. Through the intentional practice of asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath control and awareness), concentration and a meditative awareness can be developed. These qualities can support a rich meditation practice and access to higher levels of consciousness. The techniques regularly practiced are designed to facilitate a connection of body, mind and breath.

The Center’s Hatha Yoga classes provide tools to help keep the discipline of practice alive and consistent. The Center currently offers three consecutive levels of general Hatha Yoga and a few Hatha Yoga classes with special emphases. Many of the classes are ongoing and you can drop in on them at any time. Some of them are in a series format and require that you register for them ahead of time. More detailed information can be found in the description of each particular CSE class.

Many branches of yoga have developed over time, providing us with a technology of divine discovery. At the Center for Spiritual Enlightenment, the main branch of yoga taught and practiced is a yoga of technique, called Kriya Yoga. Hatha Yoga is an integral part of Kriya Yoga and supports its essential practices.
